Music Helping Senior Citizens Slow Down Onset of Dementia

Research has shown playing word or number games keeps the brain active and might just slow down, if not prevent, the onset of dementia. Now, music is being added to the recipe.

Senior citizens who are actively involved in music making enjoy significant health benefits. For example, studies who that music activates the cerebellum and therefore may aid stroke victims regain language capabilities.

Many of the challenges that plaque older Americans appear to respond positively to active music making. For example, scientific studies show improvements in the brain chemistry of people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.

Studies show that older Americans who are actively involved in music making show improvements in anxiety, loneliness, and depression-three factors that are critical in coping with stress, stimulating the immune system, and improving health.

A breakthrough study demonstrated that group keyboard lessons given to older Americans had a significant effect on increasing levels of human growth hormone (hGH), which is implicated in such aging phenomena as osteoporosis, energy levels, wrinkling, sexual function, muscle mass, and aches and pains.

The Health and Elder Care Corporate Social Responsibility and Code of Ethics

Each Certified Senior Approved Service is pre-screened, in part, by a consumer-driven survey. The survey is mailed to a combination of current and past clients of each business applying for the certification as a Senior Approved Service.

The nature of the questions are designed to reveal the overall standard of ethical business practices, as perceived by the senior citizen client receiving the care and also by the family of the elderly person.

In order to successfully receive Certification as a Senior Approved Service each health and elder care business, resource, and/or product proves the following key elements of Social Responsibility by successfully completing the consumer based survey and by agreeing to:

Code of Ethics

  • Mission Statement: Senior Approved Services advocates for the right of all seniors to receive excellent care and services. Most importantly, to remain safe in the receiving of this care.
  • Senior Approved Services facilitates an atmosphere of trust and cooperation between the senior receiving care and the services providing the care.
  • We serve each elderly client as an individual recognizing and addressing the unique needs and desires of each senior client. We truly care about people and seek to treat residents, clients, employees, and those within our community, with dignity, respect, and fairness.
  • We join Senior Approved Services agreeing to the mission of advocating on behalf of all seniors to receive excellent care and services.
  • We conduct our daily business with honesty; including contract agreements, service and care expectations, scheduling, and safeguarding against all manners of fraud and abuse.
  • We adhere to safe hiring practices. All employees are screened properly with state authorities to eliminate the possibility of hiring someone that has a history of theft, fraud, or abuse in any nature.
  • Each of our elderly clients are treated with respect and we honor the senior as an elder with both a past and a future. We are dedicated to improving upon the senior’s quality of life respecting always the senior’s right to make choices.
  • We adhere to the mandated rules and regulations governing the health and elder care industry and we strive to surpasses the basic guidelines required of us.
